Poland Finalizes $3.8 Billion F-16V Upgrade, Naming L3Harris, RTX and Elbit as Key Suppliers

Lockheed Martin will modernize 48 jets in Poland under a U.S.-backed program to improve survivability.

Overview

  • Warsaw completed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance to convert 48 F-16 Block 52+ jets to the F-16V standard, with Lockheed Martin as prime and in-country work at Military Aviation Works No. 2 in Bydgoszcz.
  • Poland selected L3Harris’s AN/ALQ-254 Viper Shield electronic warfare suite, which flew for the first time on Jan. 23, 2025, with deliveries expected to begin late 2025 and entry into service the following year.
  • The package adds Elbit’s PAWS-2 infrared missile warning system, RTX’s MMC-7000AH mission computer and MS-110 reconnaissance pod to replace DB-110, an upgraded Sniper ATP with digital video and two-way data link, and the APG-83 AESA radar.
  • Aircraft will receive the Martin-Baker US18E ejection seat, and design changes target a 12,000-hour service life, while the contract specifies replacement of canopy sill longeron stringers on 36 single-seat F-16Cs.
  • The modernization aligns Polish F-16s with Block 70-class capabilities and supports integration of new weapons and ISR assets, as the finalized package is valued around $3.8 billion versus a $7.3 billion estimate in the 2024 U.S. DSCA notice.
