Pokémon removes new TCG Pocket Ho-Oh art after online backlash

Overview

  • A production error led the internal team to supply the illustrator with incorrect reference materials that mirrored Lanjiujiu’s 2021 Ho-Oh fan art.
  • The immersive Ho-Oh EX and Lugia EX cards have been pulled from Wisdom of Sea and Sky packs and substituted with “New Art Coming Soon” placeholders.
  • Players who draw the affected cards now encounter blank placeholders and silent screens instead of the intended animations.
  • In a formal apology, the company pledged to conduct a broader review of its art sourcing and strengthen its quality control protocols.
  • The Pokémon Company is commissioning new original immersive artwork under stricter controls to restore the cards in a future update.
