Pokémon GO Raises Trainer Level Cap to 80 in October, Overhauls XP Progression

Players get a short window to chase legacy cosmetics before the Oct. 15 revamp recalculates levels from total XP.

Overview

  • Niantic set Oct. 15 for the Level Revamp, which rebalances progression across levels 1–80 and adjusts trainer levels automatically based on lifetime XP without lowering anyone’s level.
  • An XP Celebration runs through Oct. 14 with 2× Catch XP on Nice/Great/Excellent throws, +3,000 XP for raid and Max Battle wins, and Timed Research worth more than seven million XP.
  • The level 47 task to walk 25 km in a week drops from eight completions to two during the event, providing an easier path to pre-revamp milestones.
  • Level-Up Research tied to levels 41–50 will be retired on launch, with new Level-Up Research introduced at levels 71–80 under the rebalanced system.
  • New progression perks include increased Pokémon, item, and Gift storage, new avatar items from level 25, and higher odds to become Lucky Friends at level 70+, while legacy cosmetics from levels 40–50 retire after Oct. 14; an optional $9.99 web-store Ultra Box is available.
