Pokémon Go Adds Remote Trading as Niantic Begins Phased Rollout

Access requires the new Forever Friends tier, using tagged wish lists under strict exclusions.

Overview

  • The feature started rolling out on December 8 in New Zealand, with wider regions to follow in stages.
  • Trainers unlock Remote Trades after reaching Forever Friends status through Friendship Points progress.
  • Remote Trades use a Remote Trade tag and wish lists of up to three picks per side, with both players confirming the final exchange.
  • Certain Pokémon are ineligible, including those caught in the last 30 days, previously traded, Shadow, Mythical, buddies, gym defenders, fused or actively Mega‑Evolved forms, Crowned Zacian/Zamazenta, and those at Playgrounds.
  • Remote trades do not count as Special Trades, Lucky Friends still yield Lucky Pokémon, each pair can hold only one active Remote Trade at a time, and the friend limit is rising from 450 to 650 over the coming weeks.
