Overview
- A points failure in the Colchester rail yard prevented some trains from entering service and caused early-morning cancellations and altered timetables on routes between Colchester Town and Ipswich.
- Hours later a trespasser on the tracks at Ipswich prompted police to block lines toward Felixstowe, Lowestoft and Stowmarket and forced intercity services that call at Ipswich to stop until the scene was cleared.
- The disruption affected intercity trains between London Liverpool Street and destinations including Ipswich and Norwich and regional services to Cambridge, Felixstowe and Lowestoft while some stopping (non-intercity) services continued to run.
- Greater Anglia and Network Rail apologised, advised passengers to check live JourneyCheck updates, allowed advance-ticket holders to use earlier or later trains when cancellations occurred, and reminded customers that Delay Repay may apply for delays of 15 minutes or more.
- Replacement buses are limited and do not accept full-size bicycles, e-scooters or electric bikes, and passengers should expect delays into mid-morning as police and signallers clear the incidents and restore normal services.
