Overview

  • Poilievre plans to table the Canadian Sovereignty Act in the upcoming fall session to dismantle what he calls “Liberal growth-blocking laws” and expedite federal approval of major projects.
  • The proposed act would repeal environmental and trade regulations such as Bill C-69, the West Coast oil tanker ban (Bill C-48), the industrial carbon tax, the electric vehicle sales mandate and the single-use plastics ban.
  • It would legalize pipelines, offer tax breaks to investors and incentives for provinces that remove internal trade barriers, and impose deadlines requiring two coast-bound pipelines, an LNG facility and a Ring of Fire access road to start construction by March 14, 2026.
  • Poilievre criticized Prime Minister Mark Carney for making repeated concessions to President Trump’s tariffs and pledged narrow counter-tariffs targeting American goods to strengthen Canada’s trade position.
  • He challenged B.C. Premier David Eby’s insistence on a private proponent before discussing a pipeline, calling it a “chicken and egg” problem that national leadership can overcome.
