PNGRB Floats LPG Interoperability Plan With 24-Hour Refill Transfer

PNGRB has opened consultations through mid-October to trial cross-company deliveries in pilots before setting a nationwide rollout date.

Overview

  • The regulator’s draft framework would reassign a booking after 24 hours to the nearest available distributor, even if it belongs to a different oil marketing company.
  • Interoperability would cover Indane (IOC), Bharat Gas (BPCL) and HP Gas (HPCL) using standardized 14.2 kg cylinders and identical regulator fittings.
  • Public comments are invited through mid-October, after which PNGRB intends to frame final rules and announce an implementation timeline.
  • The proposal envisions phased pilots in select urban and rural areas to validate IT integration, process coordination and commercial arrangements across companies.
  • PNGRB cites over 32 crore LPG connections and roughly 1.7 million annual complaints—many for delayed deliveries—as the case for a continuity-focused system.
