PMD Sees Northern Showers as Most of Pakistan Stays Dry

A dominant continental air mass limits precipitation outside the far north.

Overview

  • Light rain and partly cloudy skies are forecast at a few locations in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Dir, Kohistan and upper Swat, through Tuesday.
  • Islamabad, Rawalpindi and most districts are expected to stay dry during the period, with cold conditions in hilly areas during mornings and nights.
  • The department says a shallow westerly wave will brush northern areas while continental air prevails across the country.
  • Karachi faces intensifying daytime heat, with PMD’s Early Warning Centre cautioning that highs could top 38°C under northwesterly winds, though nights should remain cool.
  • Recent observations show widespread dryness and notable highs of 39°C at Mithi and 38°C at Turbat and Chhor, as maximums in Islamabad and Rawalpindi are forecast in the low 30s°C.
