PMD Forecasts Localized Rain and Strong Winds for Karachi

The forecast signals flood risk in coastal Karachi with extreme heat persisting in northwest districts.

Overview

  • The Pakistan Meteorological Department predicts localized drizzle, light rain and strong gusts in parts of Karachi on July 19–20, with mostly cloudy skies to continue for the next three days.
  • Karachi daytime highs are expected to stay around 33–35°C during the brief wet spell, but rainfall is likely to be patchy and not cover the whole city.
  • Motorists and residents have been warned to expect wet roads, reduced visibility and water accumulation in low-lying areas that could disrupt traffic and cause local waterlogging.
  • Peshawar is forecast to remain extremely hot with temperatures above 42°C and Dera Ismail Khan recorded 43°C, creating concurrent heat-related health risks for inland communities.
  • PMD says rain will begin in several Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts tonight and a second monsoon spell is expected in Punjab from July 19–24, and the public should monitor official updates and follow local guidance.
