Overview
- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued the directive after a Friday review in Islamabad where officials said disruptions to RLNG transport linked to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz had reduced electricity generation.
- The government ordered that no area should face power outages longer than two hours and told officials to make full use of available generation resources to meet that limit.
- Mr Sharif directed immediate action to restore RLNG supplies and to address transport problems that officials said have forced system operators to carry out load management.
- The prime minister ordered Consumer Grievance Redressal Committees at each Disco to include public representatives and be fully functional within one week; consumers can also log complaints on the 118 helpline and receive a token number and estimated resolution time.
- Authorities warned the shortfall has already produced lengthy cuts in some regions — with shortages reported above 4,000MW and daily outages exceeding 10–12 hours in parts of Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa — and officials said implementation will depend on securing fuel, logistics and Disco capacity.
