PM Modi to Inaugurate Mumbai Metro Line 3’s Final Stretch on Oct. 8

The opening completes Mumbai’s first fully underground corridor linking Colaba to Aarey.

Overview

  • The last leg runs from Science Centre in Worli to Cuffe Parade and adds 11 stations, including Mumbai Central, Girgaon, CSMT, Hutatma Chowk and Churchgate.
  • Mumbai Metro 3 released interior visuals of the Worli Science Centre station, signaling commuter-ready finishes ahead of the launch.
  • The 33.5 km Aqua Line was built at a reported cost of Rs 37,276 crore with 26 underground stations and one at grade, backed by Japanese ODA through JICA.
  • Engineers completed about 54.5 km of tunnelling with up to 17 tunnel boring machines deployed simultaneously during construction.
  • Once fully operational, expected benefits include a roughly 45‑minute trip from Cuffe Parade to the domestic airport, better suburban rail interchanges at Mumbai Central, Churchgate and CSMT, and reduced road congestion and emissions.
