Overview

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the final segment of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) on April 19, marking a historic milestone in India's infrastructure development.
• The 272-km stretch includes the Chenab Railway Bridge, the world's highest railway arch bridge, standing at 359 meters above the riverbed.
• This rail link will provide direct connectivity between New Delhi and Kashmir, boosting regional integration, tourism, and employment opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir.
• The project features significant engineering achievements, including 36 tunnels spanning 119 kilometers and nearly 1,000 bridges constructed in seismically sensitive terrain.
• Two Vande Bharat Express trains will commence operations on the new route, with successful trial runs already conducted on the Katra-Sangaldan section.
