Overview
- The Prime Minister dedicated the 157.92‑km Packages 1–5 stretch in Jind, Haryana, on Friday, formally opening the first completed segment of the Greenfield corridor.
- The inaugurated section cost about ₹9,680 crore and is one part of the planned 667‑km Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway, which is estimated to cost roughly ₹38,905 crore in total.
- Alongside the expressway opening, the PM dedicated the 33.81‑km Ambala–Kala Amb and 40.60‑km Jind–Gohana highways, inaugurated a 30.9‑km Package 6 in Jalandhar, and laid foundation stones for IT City–Kurali and Ambala–Chandigarh greenfield links.
- Authorities say the new corridor will provide a faster alternative to NH‑44, shorten Delhi–Amritsar journeys to about four hours, speed freight movement through dedicated interchanges, and improve access for Vaishno Devi pilgrims.
- The project is being built in phased packages across Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, and officials expect the staged rollout to boost regional logistics, tourism and local economies as remaining segments are completed.
