Overview
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated in Rohini the 10.1-km Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Alipur–Dichaon Kalan stretch of Urban Extension Road-II, completing city-side links in projects costing about ₹11,000 crore.
- The expressways are designed to divert heavy and long-distance traffic from inner ring roads, with government estimates forecasting 40–60% reductions in travel times to key destinations including IGI Airport.
- Engineering features include a 5.1-km airport tunnel, multi-level interchanges and service roads to ensure uninterrupted transit across the new corridors.
- The roads provide multimodal connectivity to Yashobhoomi, Delhi Metro’s Blue and Orange lines, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station and the Dwarka cluster bus depot.
- Authorities incorporated two million tonnes of biomined inert material from landfills into UER-II construction and Delhi Traffic Police enforced temporary traffic restrictions from 6 am to 2 pm on inauguration day.
