Overview
- Developed under a public–private partnership at about ₹19,650 crore, the project opens with Terminal 1 and initial cargo capacity of 0.8 million tonnes per year.
- Operators promote the hub as India’s first fully digital airport, with DigiYatra, AI-enabled processing, 66 check-in counters and 22 self-bag-drop points to cut queues.
- Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects with lotus-inspired columns, the airport incorporates sustainability features such as dedicated SAF storage, roughly 47 MW of solar power and EV bus services.
- Commercial services are expected to begin in December 2025 following security handovers and operational trials, with IndiGo, Air India/Air India Express and Akasa Air planning launches.
- Future phases include additional terminals and a second runway targeting roughly 90 million passengers annually, with an Automated People Mover and water-taxi links enhancing connectivity.
