Overview
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually opened the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal at Indira Dock during the Samudra se Samriddhi event in Bhavnagar, which also launched projects worth ₹34,200 crore, including over ₹7,870 crore for maritime initiatives.
- The 415,000 sq ft terminal is designed to handle up to 1 million passengers a year, berth five ships simultaneously, and includes 72 check-in and immigration counters, parking for about 300 vehicles, and shore-to-ship power to cut emissions.
- Developed by the Mumbai Port Authority at an estimated cost of ₹556 crore, the terminal’s operations are under a 30-year concession with Ballard Pier Port Pvt Ltd and JM Baxi & Co.
- The terminal is operational, with passengers boarding Cordelia Cruises on opening day, and the next scheduled call is the Cordelia Empress on September 22.
- Positioned to make Mumbai a global cruise hub, the launch was paired with the Prime Minister’s call for greater self-reliance in shipping and expanded port capacity across key Indian ports.
