PM Modi inaugurates Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor
PM Modi launches India's first regional rapid transit corridor connecting eastern NCR.
- PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor and launched the RapidX train, dubbed as NaMo Bharat, on October 20, 2023.
- The 17-km priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot of the RRTS train is now operational for passengers, while the rest of the 82.15 km corridor is expected to be operational by June 2025.
- The RRTS trains, which initially were named 'RAPIDX', will run every 15 minutes between 6 am and 11 pm, and the fare will be ₹50 for Standard Class and ₹100 for the Premium class.
- The trains are equipped with modern features and amenities such as reserved seats for women, specially-abled, and senior citizens, serially numbered seats, an emergency door-opening mechanism, and a button to communicate with the staff. A provision for installing vending machines is planned for the future in the Premium coaches.
- Residents appreciate the initiative, stating that it will significantly reduce travel time to Meerut and improve commuting experience in the densely populated eastern region of Delhi.
