PM Modi Hails Tamil Day in Fiji, Kannada Pathshala in Dubai on Mann Ki Baat

He cited Kashi Tamil Sangamam participation to illustrate growing youth engagement with heritage languages.

Overview

  • Modi highlighted a school in Fiji’s Rakiraki that held its first Tamil Day in November, featuring student poems, speeches and cultural performances.
  • During Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0 in Varanasi from December 2–15, campaigns ran in more than 50 schools under the ‘Learn TamilTamil Karakalam’ theme.
  • About 300 students traveled from Varanasi to Tamil Nadu to learn Tamil, while 50 teachers from Tamil Nadu taught in Kashi schools during the programme.
  • The Prime Minister played an audio clip of Kashi children speaking fluent Tamil and noted their mother tongue is Hindi.
  • He praised Dubai’s community-run Kannada Pathshala, describing classes in reading, writing and speaking Kannada with more than a thousand children now involved.
