PM Internship Pilot Offer Acceptance Slips to 30% in Second Round

Ministers told Parliament that placement location plus internship length are the main reasons candidates decline offers or do not join.

Overview

  • In round two, companies made 82,110 offers and 24,131 were accepted as of August 12; round one saw 28,141 acceptances out of 82,077 offers with over 8,700 joiners.
  • The pilot has drawn heavy interest, with 6.21 lakh applications in round one and 4.55 lakh in round two, as partners posted over 1.27 lakh and over 1.18 lakh opportunities, respectively.
  • Feedback gathered through surveys, call-centre outreach and stakeholder inputs cites location, internship duration and pursuit of higher studies as the top reasons for non-acceptance or non-joining.
  • The government told the Lok Sabha that any nationwide rollout will follow evaluation of pilot outcomes and consultations with industry and states.
  • Andhra Pradesh recorded the most applications at 75,206, while offers and acceptances were also high in Ladakh (9,055 offers; 2,283 accepted) and Nagaland (7,025; 1,765).
