PM GatiShakti Marks Five Years With 396 Big‑Ticket Projects and Expanded Public GIS

The government says the platform centralizes geospatial data to speed multimodal connectivity, accelerate project delivery, reduce logistics costs.

Overview

  • Government data shows 396 big-ticket projects worth Rs 18.66 lakh crore have been taken up under PM GatiShakti, with 256 projects sanctioned and 198 under implementation.
  • The public GIS platform has grown to more than 23,493 data layers and offers 230 approved datasets to help planners run site-suitability checks, map connectivity and plan alignments.
  • PM GatiShakti now links 58 central ministries and all 36 states and union territories so ministries can view infrastructure, land, ecological and economic data on a common map.
  • A Network Planning Group under the scheme has recommended over 400 projects worth about Rs 20.23 lakh crore for approval, signalling faster screening of large investments through the platform.
  • Officials say the next phase will push multimodal links and last-mile connectivity to cut delays and logistics costs which could speed deliveries for factories, farms and ports and reshape regional supply chains such as the Khagaria–Purnea corridor.
