Overview
- The Prime Minister dedicated two POWERGRID transmission systems that are presented as commissioned to carry power from Kurnool and Ananthapuram renewable zones and he laid the foundation stone for the Kurnool‑IV REZ Phase‑I transmission project.
- The dedicated works include Kurnool wind/solar parts A and B built at about ₹3,547 crore and the Ananthapuram (2,500 MW) plus Kurnool (1,000 MW) solar evacuation system built at about ₹823 crore.
- The Kurnool‑IV REZ Phase‑I transmission scheme was announced at an estimated cost of ₹5,550 crore and is planned to add 4.5 GW of renewable integration capacity when constructed.
- POWERGRID reported a large operational footprint as of June 30, 2026 — 291 substations, 186,595 circuit kilometres of lines and 634,516 MVA transformation capacity — and said transmission availability exceeds 99.80%.
- Senior central and Andhra Pradesh leaders attended the ceremony, and officials say the projects should reduce renewable curtailment by improving evacuation capacity and enable more clean power flows across the national grid.
