Plymouth Teeth-Whitening Boss Jailed for 26 Years Over Serial Rapes

The court found he used Instagram offers of free treatments to lure women to his Essex Smiles salon.

Overview

  • Ricky Stubberfield, 31, was sentenced at Plymouth Crown Court to 26 years in prison plus six years on extended licence and must join the sex offenders register for life.
  • He was convicted of 23 offences, including eight counts of rape, nine of sexual assault, four of assault by penetration, indecent exposure and making an indecent image of a child.
  • The offending spanned December 2013 to June 2024, targeting women and girls aged 16 to 27 at the salon and other locations in Plymouth.
  • Evidence presented included a recorded FaceTime call capturing an assault and DNA swabs, following an investigation by Devon and Cornwall Police’s Project Gemstone under Operation Highrock.
  • Judge Robert Linford called his behaviour “utterly remorseless predation,” police welcomed the sentence, and Stubberfield maintained denials during the trial.
