Plex Adds Community Features as Lifetime Pass Price Rises
Plex positions new community tools to increase engagement, raise revenue, and improve personalized discovery
Overview
- Plex launched Lists for all users and announced a suite of community features on June 3, 2026 that include Discussions, Alerts, and a Match Score recommendation tool.
- Discussions will roll out this month as a forum for comments on movies and shows that Plex says will be moderated with a mix of AI systems and human reviewers to manage text and images.
- Match Score will use a user’s watch history and ratings to give a percentage prediction of how likely they are to enjoy a title, while Alerts will notify followers about activity on lists, titles, and film professionals.
- Plex said the announcement comes as it serves more than 42 million monthly active users and will raise the Lifetime Plex Pass price to $749.99 effective July 1, 2026.
- The move extends Plex’s multi‑year push from a personal media server into a social discovery hub, following prior releases such as Discover Together in 2023 and public profiles and reviews last year, and sets Plex in more direct competition with community platforms like Reddit and Letterboxd.
