Overview

  • Playas MX offers free real-time monitoring of faecal enterococci levels at 289 recreational beaches across 17 coastal states with green, yellow and red safety ratings.
  • Cofepris sampling of 2,355 water tests at 393 points found 273 beaches compliant with WHO guidelines and 16 hotspots exceeding bacterial limits for recreational use.
  • Testing of San Felipe’s El Cortéz and Malecón beaches found 10–20 enterococci per 100 millilitres, far below the WHO’s 200-enterococci limit for safe swimming.
  • Michoacán Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla challenged Cofepris’s non-apt designations at Nexpa and Caleta de Campos and commissioned Coepris to perform independent water analyses.
  • Joint federal-state resampling of disputed Michoacán sites is underway this week, with provisional water-quality findings expected by the weekend.
