Plans for Historic Boxing Match at Alcatraz Reportedly in the Works

Promoters are reportedly nearing a deal to hold a professional boxing match featuring WBO junior welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez at Alcatraz Island this summer.
The event would mark the first-ever professional boxing match at the historic site, which now operates as a museum managed by the National Park Service.
Saudi promoter Turki Alalshikh, head of Riyadh Season and owner of The Ring magazine, is backing the proposed fight as part of a three-bout deal involving Top Rank promotions.
Approval from the National Park Service is still required, and no formal application for a special use permit has yet been submitted.
Lopez, who last fought in June 2023, is expected to defend his title, though no opponent has been announced for the potential event.
