Planned Upgrades and Sinkhole Damage Disrupt Buenos Aires Rail Services

A sinkhole near Puente Bosch has compounded summer track renewals; Mitre’s Tigre branch will be suspended with Roca line operating on limited schedules into late August.

Overview

  • A Puente Bosch embankment collapse since July 30 has triggered widespread Roca line delays and cancellations as crews work overnight to shore up the tracks.
  • The Roca line’s Bosques via Quilmes branch is limited to Plaza Constitución–Berazategui until August 31 while concrete sleepers and ballast are replaced.
  • Services between Plaza Constitución and La Plata will originate and terminate at Tolosa from August 4 to 31 to allow renewal of half-century-old rails.
  • Trenes Argentinos will halt all Mitre line operations on the Tigre branch from August 9 through 18 for comprehensive track replacement under the Emergency Ferroviaria plan.
  • During the Mitre maintenance window, trains on the José León Suárez and main Mitre routes will only run to Belgrano R and will not serve Retiro station.
