Planeta Posts Record €2.2 Billion in 2025 as Education Becomes Main Growth Engine

An expanding education arm funded by proceeds from recent disposals is driving the group's shift to prioritize targeted acquisitions and overseas launches.

Overview

  • Planeta announced on Wednesday that it closed 2025 with a record turnover of €2.2 billion, a 5.3% rise versus 2024.
  • EBITDA held roughly steady at €400–410 million as weaker returns in audiovisual media offset gains from editorial and education.
  • The education division grew about 8% and now matches editorial in weight, operating 22 institutions, 38 campuses and more than 170,000 students across eight countries.
  • Recent portfolio moves generated roughly €270 million in capital gains and the group said it has advanced talks to buy Editorial Juventud while preparing to launch Ediciones Planeta in France with first titles planned for August 2027.
  • Planeta completed a refinancing that leaves debt effectively stable, plans further Casa del Libro expansion, and says 2026 is up around 7% year-to-date with the final quarter still decisive for the full-year outlook.
