Plainville to Honor Veteran Firefighter with Weekend Services as Equipment Failure Inquiry Continues

Officials are examining the cause of the fire truck malfunction that killed veteran firefighter Raymond Moreau.

Overview

  • A wake for Moreau is scheduled Friday evening at Plainville Funeral Home and a funeral service will follow Saturday at Central Connecticut State University’s Welte Hall.
  • The Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Squad and its specialized Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit and Collision Analyst team are probing the component failure.
  • Investigators are collaborating with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and New Britain State’s Attorney Christian Watson to determine what caused the apparatus part to break loose.
  • Gov. Ned Lamont and Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz ordered flags at half-staff and fire departments across Connecticut have provided station coverage and sounded final sirens in tribute.
  • Moreau, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, volunteered with the Plainville Fire Department since 1990 and logged tens of thousands of hours before his death at a house fire on Maria Road.
