Pladis Launches £68 Million Modernisation Drive Across UK Biscuit Plants

Upgrades at Stockport, Liverpool Aintree, Carlisle plus wider sites will modernise production lines; reduce emissions; add capacity under a plan due to finish in 2026

Overview

  • The investment breaks down into £21 million for a new robotic chocolate moulding line at Stockport, £33 million to overhaul Liverpool Aintree’s ovens and infrastructure, £2 million for Carlisle’s savoury department and £12 million for UK-wide support systems.
  • Stockport’s Jaffa Cake factory will gain 45 new roles while Carlisle’s historic site will recruit and train 48 colleagues, delivering 93 jobs in total to North West communities.
  • New automation, including state-of-the-art robotics in Stockport and upgraded ovens at Aintree, is designed to boost production capacity and efficiency across core biscuit and cracker brands.
  • The programme is forecast to cut 876 tonnes of carbon emissions each year as part of Pladis’s wider sustainability targets.
  • Work began in July 2025 under Pladis’s post-2016 growth strategy and is on track to complete by the end of 2026, safeguarding operations at century-old UK factories.
