- On Friday PKLI Rawalpindi completed its first kidney transplant for a 32-year-old Islamabad resident and reported both the patient and his 26-year-old donor brother, Ans Asghar, are stable.
- The surgical team was led by Dr Asad Bashir with Dr Ali Abid Nazar and Dr Nasrullah performing the operation.
- PKLI’s Financial Assistance Department covered 100 percent of this patient’s treatment costs after a means test, enabling care for a low-income family whose members are unemployed.
- The institute previously carried out two successful liver transplants in late August and is developing a patient-registration app to simplify access to its services.
- PKLI says it is preparing to introduce a deceased-donor transplant system, a change that could shift Pakistan’s current reliance on living donors and increase organ availability.
