Piyush Goyal Urges Companies to Channel CSR Into Nutrition at NDDB Conclave
The government is positioning NDDB to coordinate CSR-backed nutrition drives targeting saturation.
Overview
- Speaking in New Delhi on January 6, Goyal framed a malnutrition-free India as vital to Viksit Bharat 2047 and to the country’s long-term economic strength.
- He said the 2% CSR mandate should be treated as a minimum and as an investment in future markets, labour and consumers rather than a burden.
- Two pilots were launched: SAIL-Bhilai’s Giftmilk to supply fortified flavoured milk to about 4,000 schoolchildren in Chhattisgarh, and IDBI’s Shishu Sanjeevani to provide ready-to-eat supplements to roughly 3,000 anganwadi children in rural Nagpur, Maharashtra.
- Officials showcased a whole-of-government approach linking Commerce, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Cooperation, Panchayati Raj, and Women and Child Development, with NDDB acting as the umbrella for government–industry collaboration.
- Speakers stressed pregnancy and early-childhood interventions and noted dairy’s contribution to protein intake, while Goyal urged a people’s movement to reach every village and household.
