Pixar Debuts 'Toy Story 5' Opening with Island of Buzz Lightyears

Overview

  • At Annecy, Pixar revealed an opening POV sequence where an advanced Buzz awakens dozens of dormant Buzz Lightyears on a deserted tropical island.
  • Bonnie, now eight, is captivated by a LilyPad device that threatens to sideline Woody, Jessie and the rest of her toy collection.
  • Following Toy Story 4, Woody has left Bonnie’s room to aid lost toys, entrusting Jessie with sheriff duties and Buzz with her deputy role.
  • Andrew Stanton directs the sequel, which returns to a 1.85:1 aspect ratio and is set for release on June 19, 2026.
  • Tom Hanks and Tim Allen reprise Woody and Buzz, joined by Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl, Conan O’Brien as Smarty Pants and Anna Faris in a new role.
