Overview
- The musician Cristian “Pity” Álvarez gave his first in-court testimony on Monday in the criminal trial over the July 2018 death of Cristian Díaz in the Samoré area of Villa Lugano.
- Before describing the day of the killing he told judges about a recent violent dispute with a neighbor he called Mari and said he had been removed from his home in a wheelchair to explain his condition.
- Álvarez said Díaz worked as a freelance driver who showed him a pistol before taking him to the villa and that when Álvarez left for a few minutes Díaz was gone and he was left behind.
- He denied ever saying he would shoot Díaz and said he only warned others that the incident ‘would be talked about’ after he recovered his backpack and walked back to the building.
- The hearing is continuing and the court will compare Álvarez’s version with existing forensic reports, witness testimony and other evidence as the trial proceeds and public interest remains high.
