Overview
- Mirella, a Brazilian trans woman aged 44 who lived in Pisa, died following complications after an injection of industrial oil administered by a clandestine “bombaderos” operator.
- The injection occurred on August 14 by a person reportedly arriving from Rome, after which she suffered bleeding and severe pain and delayed seeking care due to fear of consequences.
- She was admitted to Cisanello hospital in critical condition on August 16 and died on August 18, with medical records citing an infection that led to fatal respiratory failure.
- The Pisa mobile squad has obtained part of the clinical file and gathered witness statements in an effort to identify who performed the illegal injection.
- Regina Satariano of the Consultorio Transgenere publicized the case, called for justice, said the group will seek civil-party status if there is a trial, and highlighted the ongoing risks from clandestine injections banned in Italy since 1993.
