Pirelli Imposes 25-Lap Tyre Limit for Qatar GP, Mandating Two Stops

The cap follows Pirelli's analysis of 2024 tyres reaching wear limits at Lusail.

Overview

  • Each tyre set may be used for a maximum of 25 laps across the entire weekend, covering practice, qualifying and the sprint.
  • Laps behind the Safety Car or Virtual Safety Car count toward the limit, while reconnaissance laps to the grid, formation laps and post-flag in-laps do not.
  • The 57-lap Grand Prix will require at least two pit stops per driver, with stint lengths constrained by prior mileage on each set.
  • The 19-lap sprint can be run without a stop on fresh tyres, though used sets with fewer than 19 laps remaining will force a change.
  • Pirelli, in agreement with Formula 1 and the FIA, will supply the C1–C3 compounds with a sprint allocation of two hard, four medium and six soft sets, and will advise teams pre-race on remaining laps per set.
