Pirelli Drops C6 for Rest of 2025, Plans 2026 Redesign After Verstappen Critique

The supplier says the soft was only marginally quicker than C5, prompting a redesign for the 2026 tyre set.

Overview

  • Pirelli confirmed it will not bring the C6 tyre to any remaining 2025 races, having already abandoned plans for Singapore and Las Vegas.
  • Mario Isola said the Singapore and Las Vegas cancellations were made on technical grounds, citing higher energy and graining risk rather than driver comments.
  • Pirelli’s analysis found C6 remained the fastest option but only by a couple of tenths over C5 and was more peaky and difficult to exploit.
  • Isola said he does not disagree with Max Verstappen’s assessment and plans to discuss the compound’s shortcomings with the driver.
  • The company will rework its softest option for the 2026 homologation to widen the performance gap to C5 and better define the compound’s role.
