Tellez, who made his MLB debut with the Blue Jays in 2018, had a career-high 35 home runs in 2022 but struggled in the 2023 season, posting a .215/.291/.376 slash line with 13 homers in 106 games.
The left-handed Tellez is expected to replace Carlos Santana, who was traded to the Brewers before the 2023 Trade Deadline.
Tellez has a career batting average of .277 at PNC Park, with five home runs and 20 RBIs in 21 games.
This move marks the second significant addition by the Pirates during free agency, following their acquisition of left-handed pitcher Marco Gonzales from Seattle last week.
