Pirates' catcher Endy Rodríguez will miss the entire 2024 season due to UCL reconstruction surgery on his right elbow and a repair of his right flexor tendon.
The injury was sustained during a Nov. 13 at-bat in the Dominican winter league with Estrellas Orientales.
Rodríguez was one of two premier catching prospects to arrive in Pittsburgh in 2023, alongside Henry Davis.
Jason Delay is expected to be the favorite for starting catcher, with Davis and recently signed Ali Sánchez as potential options.
Rodríguez, a Top 100 prospect and the Pirates’ No. 3 prospect, recorded a .612 OPS in his first big league action.
