Overview
- The twin-engine Piper PA-31 Navajo departed Deer Lake Regional Airport at 5:27 p.m. NT and crashed off-site at around 5:30 p.m. NT on July 26.
- RCMP, Deer Lake Fire Rescue and NL Health Services immediately activated an emergency command centre and converged on the scene.
- The Trans-Canada Highway east of Deer Lake was closed in both directions to accommodate rescue and recovery efforts.
- RCMP maintains control of the crash site and no casualties or passenger details have been confirmed as investigators continue onsite work.
- As the first aircraft accident in the area since 1999, the crash has prompted the airport authority to review regional aviation safety protocols.
