Overview
- Officials say you must contact the PIP enquiry line if your condition or the help you need changes, if you are not expected to live more than six months, or if you enter hospital or a care home.
- Other reportable events include imprisonment or detention, going abroad for more than four weeks, and any changes to personal details such as your name, address or GP.
- Because PIP is not means-tested, you do not need to tell DWP if you start or leave a job, change roles at work, stop other benefits, retire or are made redundant, unless your care needs change.
- To update your record, call 0800 121 4433 (option 5) or use textphone, Relay UK or the BSL video relay service, and have your National Insurance number, bank details and GP information ready for identity checks.
- GOV.UK warns that failing to report changes or giving incorrect information can lead to penalties or court action, and recipients in Scotland are urged to keep details current as Social Security Scotland uses DWP records during the transition; weekly PIP payments range from £29.20 to £187.45, paid every four weeks.
