The home run led the Tigers to victory, finishing their road trip 3-3 before returning home.
The Royals have now lost nine of their last 12 games and fall to 7-19 at home.
Starting pitchers Matthew Boyd and Zach Greinke were effective but didn't last long before rain delayed the game.
