Pinal County Grand Jury Indicts Two Coolidge Men in Alleged Cockfighting Enterprise

Prosecutors describe evidence consistent with an organized animal-fighting operation tied to broader criminal activity.

Overview

  • Samuel Felix, 60, and Gerald Vaughn, 61, were each indicted on one count of controlling an illegal enterprise and 80 counts of cockfighting, with Vaughn also charged with three counts of animal cruelty.
  • Coordinated Oct. 29 search warrants at two adjoining homes recovered more than 110 fighting roosters, cockfighting paraphernalia, training equipment, ledgers, steroids, and cash.
  • Investigators reported firearms and gang indicia at the properties and documented severe neglect of multiple dogs and other animals.
  • The investigation began in summer 2025 after suspected activity was identified near Coolidge Avenue and Picacho Street on South Main Street in Coolidge.
  • Arizona DPS’s GIITEM led the case, the Arizona Humane Society processed and documented the seized animals, and County Attorney Brad Miller pledged aggressive prosecution.
