Overview

  • Unofficial tallies show Poilievre taking about 80% of the vote in the Conservative stronghold of Battle River—Crowfoot.
  • A record 214 candidates were registered, most associated with the Longest Ballot Committee’s electoral-reform protest.
  • Elections Canada deployed blank write-in ballots for the first time, added staff, and began counting early, with formal result validation set for Saturday before a certificate is issued.
  • The seat became vacant after Conservative MP Damien Kurek resigned in June, following Poilievre’s April loss of his long-held Carleton seat to Liberal Bruce Fanjoy.
  • With a seat restored, Poilievre can resume leading the Opposition against Prime Minister Mark Carney as he approaches a party leadership review scheduled for January.
