Overview
- The Teatro Ortega hosted the award ceremony and an exclusive pre-premiere of Isla Indómita, where Claudio de la Cal received the €6,000 National Piedad Isla Prize for three decades documenting depopulation, Iberian masquerades and rural life.
- Directed by Pablo García Sanz and produced by Miguel Sánchez González for Visual Creative and Plan Secreto, the film remains in post-production and is slated for commercial release in spring 2026.
- The documentary assembles testimonies from figures who knew Isla and cultural leaders including José María Pérez ‘Peridis’, Isabel Coixet, José Manuel Navia, Yayo Herrero and Castro Prieto.
- Shot across the Montaña Palentina and cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Valladolid and Santander, the production recreated Isla’s street studio in Cervera de Pisuerga with local residents posing as in her 1950s–60s portraits.
- Backed by regional institutions and broadcasters—among them the Fundación Piedad Isla & Juan Torres, the Diputación de Palencia, local councils, the Junta de Castilla y León, Valladolid’s Film Commission and CyL TV—the project also reflects the financing challenges cited by its makers for documentaries from Castilla y León.
