Piece of George Harrison's 1962 Toast Sold to Beatles Memorabilia Collector

The preserved toast crust, saved by a fan and first sold in 1992, has been acquired by collector Joseph O’Donnell for an undisclosed amount.

  • A piece of toast left by Beatles guitarist George Harrison in 1962 was recently purchased by memorabilia collector Joseph O’Donnell for an undisclosed sum.
  • The toast was originally saved by 15-year-old fan Sue Houghton during a visit to the Harrison family home and preserved in a scrapbook with other personal items like thread from his jeans and fluff from under his bed.
  • The toast's scrapbook caption, dated February 8, 1963, coincides with The Beatles' return to Liverpool before their final performance at the Cavern Club.
  • Houghton first sold the toast in 1992 at a Christie’s auction for $1,600 to fund home repairs; it has since changed hands multiple times.
  • O’Donnell has preserved the toast in museum-grade UV-protected glass, calling it a unique and historical piece of Beatles lore.
