Pico Park: Classic Edition Becomes Permanently Free on Steam After Monetization Misstep

Tecopark says a recent online-enabled update was meant to carry a small fee, but Steam’s rules prevent reverting a game from free back to paid.

Overview

  • The developer confirmed on October 5 that Pico Park: Classic Edition will remain free on Steam indefinitely due to the platform’s paid/free reversion limits.
  • A mid-September patch added online multiplayer for 2–10 players, updated visuals to match newer entries, Steam Input support, and higher refresh rate support.
  • Tecopark had planned to keep the updated version free for about a week before charging, but the policy restriction halted that change.
  • The studio is directing new players who enjoy the free edition to consider the rest of the series, including Pico Park and Pico Park 2.
  • Originally released in 2016, the co-operative puzzle platformer supports up to 10 players and holds a Mostly Positive rating on Steam at 74%.
