Overview

  • The wildfire was reported around 3 p.m. Thursday near the 2300 block of Pickett Road just outside Calistoga, according to Cal Fire.
  • Evacuation orders were issued for zones E114 and E120 and warnings for E115, E121 and E122, with a shelter open at the Calistoga Community Center.
  • Cal Fire put the blaze at about 60 acres with zero containment by late afternoon, and later news updates cited growth to roughly 1,200 acres into the evening.
  • More than 215 personnel with 28 engines, hand crews, dozers, water tenders, helicopters and air tankers attacked the fire in steep terrain near several wineries, with no home losses or injuries reported late Thursday.
  • Temperatures near 98–100°F and very dry fuels complicated suppression as smoke spread across the region and an air quality advisory covered parts of Napa, Sonoma and Solano counties.
