• The Sept. 26 varsity matchup was called off after a deleted post on the 'Gordo V Cheer' Facebook page tied to a school dress-up day raised community concern.
• Gordo High School principal Jeff Campbell removed the post and issued an apology, saying the message was not intended to offend.
• Pickens County principal Lee Richardson said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution to protect students, athletes, and the community.
• Superintendent Shawn McDaniel said no discussions have taken place to reschedule what would have been the 101st meeting of the '8 Mile War.'
• Both teams turn to region play on Oct. 3, with Pickens County hosting Hubbertville and Gordo visiting Oakman; Gordo entered the week 5-0 and ranked No. 5 in Class 3A.
