Picasso Museum Paris Unveils €50 Million ‘Picasso 2030’ Expansion With Free Open-Air Sculpture Park

Private patronage led by the Picasso family will finance the plan through a foundation at the Académie des Beaux-Arts.

Overview

  • A new wing for temporary exhibitions will double dedicated space to 8,600 square feet.
  • The museum will merge its garden with the adjacent Square Léonor-Fini to create a 25,000-square-foot park with about ten Picasso sculptures that will be free to enter.
  • Construction is scheduled for 2028 through 2030, and the museum says it will remain open throughout the works.
  • Planning involves Paloma Picasso, and coverage notes approvals from the City of Paris and the French state along with a significant family contribution.
  • Plans also call for a café-restaurant overlooking the garden, a bookstore, and new educational and cultural spaces, with the park design inspired by Scandinavian sculpture gardens that encourage close interaction.
