PhonePe Shuts Pincode’s Consumer App, Pivots Fully to B2B Tools for Offline Retailers

Executives say operating a quick‑commerce app distracted from the goal of equipping offline shopkeepers with technology.

Overview

  • PhonePe said Pincode will wind down its consumer-facing quick commerce offering and concentrate on scaling business solutions for brick‑and‑mortar shops across India.
  • Founder and Group CEO Sameer Nigam said running another B2C app pulled focus from Pincode’s mission to help offline partners improve efficiency, margins, visibility and growth.
  • CEO Vivek Lohcheb said the entire Pincode team will now accelerate a suite of B2B products that already includes inventory, order management and other ERP tools, plus direct sourcing and replenishment in select categories.
  • Launched in April 2023 as an ONDC‑linked hyperlocal app, Pincode also piloted 24‑hour medicine delivery in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Pune using neighbourhood pharmacies rather than dark stores.
  • YourStory reported that industry sources flagged inventory control and customer experience issues with ONDC and neighbourhood‑store fulfilment, while PhonePe cites a network of over 61 crore users and 4.4 crore merchant acceptance points as of March 31, 2025.
